The seventh annual Jimbo Moddrell "MAKE PROMISES HAPPEN" Rally will be held Friday and Saturday, June 20 & 21, at the Chickasha Eagles Lodge Aerie #4070, located at 701 East Hwy 19 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
"Make Promises Happen" is a camp for handicapped children. It is located on 320 acres just south of Guthrie, and is like heaven to these special children. They have fishing, boating, swimming, and many other activities for the kids.
Each child has his/her own personal counselor, and this one on one relationship becomes VERY special indeed. All camp counselors are volunteers who donate their time to help these deserving children.
Jimbo Moddrell was a volunteer counselor at "Make Promises Happen" for eight years. He loved these children dearly. Jimbo was killed in a car accident January 15, 2000, on his way to work.
We hold this rally, each year, in Jimbo's honor, and on behalf of these special children who have done nothing to deserve their plight in life. They are so appreciative, loving, and always smiling.
A few weeks after the rally we all journey to the "Make Promises Happen" camp to present a check from the proceeds of the rally. Then we take all the children for rides on our motorcycles. There is something magical about kids and motorcycles. Many children require assistance while riding, which is gladly given.
I wish you could have been there. You would have seen big, burly motorcycle riders, wearing bandannas and sun glasses, with tears sneaking out from under their sun glasses. Sometimes I think the riders enjoy it even more than the children. These men and women give their all to help these sweet children.
The first year the check was $800.00. Last year we were so blessed to be able to donate over $10,000, for a total of $73000 over the years, to this worthy cause. We are so thankful to the Lord and to so many caring volunteers who have made this special dream possible.
